Student says security is key to starting families in Latvia

Security is the most important condition for young people who want to start families in Latvia, student Niola Ose told public broadcaster LSM.

Ose is from Jelgava and is currently studying in Riga. She said national security should remain the country’s main priority.

She also believes schools should provide much more information about the National Defence Service so that young people understand joining it as a courageous and positive step.

Ose is concerned not only about physical security, but also about the security of the Latvian language and culture. She said education requires greater state funding and called for real financial support for young families and students.

LSM spoke to Ose ahead of the elections to Latvia’s 15th Saeima about her expectations for the next parliament and the changes she would like to see over the following four years.
