Aaviks to stage biggest home concert at Alexela

Violinist Hans Christian Aavik and Karolina Aavik will give their biggest concert in Estonia at Alexela concert hall in mid-October, ERR reported on the programme “Ringvaade”.

The concert, titled “Üle helide”, will be held in one of Estonia’s largest concert halls. The musicians said the invitation to perform there came before they had even expressed interest themselves.

“We had not even had time to voice such a wish when we were approached and asked whether we would like to do it,” Karolina Aavik said. Hans Christian Aavik added that their recent ideas had all been highly ambitious.

The musicians have kept the concert programme secret, but said they were pleased that the hall was almost sold out. Karolina Aavik said audiences had trusted them and were interested in following their journey.

Hans Christian Aavik said their aim was to offer the audience a powerful experience featuring works they themselves loved most. The first half will consist entirely of classical music and will include Enescu’s Violin Sonata, which he described as one of the most demanding sonatas written for piano and violin, “something like Mount Everest”. The second half will be different.

Curly Strings, Liisi Koikson and Martti Tärn will also perform at Alexela, accompanied by an orchestra conducted by Kaspar Mänd.

The couple said music was also the main subject they might argue about. Karolina Aavik joked that while everything was calm and pleasant at home, tensions could arise in the rehearsal room.

Hans Christian Aavik said it was positive that the married stage partners could travel around the world for work together. Travelling separately, he said, made it less enjoyable to eat good food alone, and sharing those experiences gave them new energy.
