Police still seek answers after fatal mass brawl in Kohtla-Järve

Police are still investigating the circumstances of a mass brawl in Kohtla-Järve that left one participant dead, ERR reported. Two of the three people wanted in connection with the incident have been found, while one remains at large. Police have detained nine people.
“Because a very large number of people are connected to the incident, there are still many unanswered questions and unclear circumstances,” said Nikita Golovin, head of the Jõhvi police station.
Police have also identified another injured person. The injuries suffered by that person and the three other victims are not life-threatening.
As of Tuesday evening, the nine detainees included Sergei and Konstantin, whose identities police had made public on Monday while seeking the public’s help. The location of 25-year-old Roman has not yet been established. Investigators are continuing to question suspects and witnesses and carry out other procedural actions.
Police have seized two weapon-like objects that may have been modified and could potentially be used as firearms. Expert examination will determine whether they were used in Sunday’s incident and what they actually are.
According to the information currently available to police, the incident was a settling of scores between people involved, and others were not in danger.
Golovin said investigators believe the events began on Friday night, when a 19-year-old man allegedly struck a woman at an entertainment venue in Narva while intoxicated. Police were called to the scene, but the situation had calmed by the time they arrived, and the woman did not make any complaint. Officers took the young man to sober up.
Police said they were checking all information provided by the public and urged people not to take the law into their own hands or spread unverified information. Anyone with information about Sunday evening’s events or Roman’s whereabouts was asked to call 112.
A 21-year-old man was killed in the mass brawl on Endla Street in the Järve district of Kohtla-Järve.
