LTV puts New Unity under scrutiny ahead of Latvia’s parliamentary election

Latvian Television is focusing on the New Unity party alliance in the latest episode of its “Party in Focus” series, LSM reported. The programme is intended to help voters make an informed choice in Latvia’s 15th Saeima elections.

The series features political parties that had support of at least 2% in SKDS public opinion research conducted in early August. Each programme invites the leaders of the party’s candidate lists in the five electoral districts, with candidates ranked first, second or third.

The episode also includes an analysis of the party’s record over the past four years, where applicable, and presents voters’ views of New Unity.

The series examines whether campaign promises are a genuine basis for political accountability or simply a way to attract voters’ attention. Further information about the party, its candidates, election programme and positions on issues important to society is available in LSM’s election section.

The 15th Saeima elections will take place on October 3. Polling stations will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and voters will be able to cast their ballots at any polling station. Fourteen candidate lists have been submitted.

Early voting will be available at all polling stations in Latvia from September 28 until election day. The newly elected 15th Saeima will hold its first sitting on November 3, when the current 14th Saeima’s term will end.
