Kristi Jaanus and Priit Põhjala win school stories competition

Kristi Jaanus and Priit Põhjala won first place in the Jaan Rannap school stories competition, ERR reported. The winners were announced and awarded on September 12 at the Literature Street festival in Kadriorg, Tallinn.

The competition, launched in spring by Täheke and Hea Laps, received 86 entries. The jury, consisting of Ilona Martson, Kätlin Vainola, Anna-Magdaleena Kangro and Kadri Hinrikus, awarded two first places, two second places, three third places and one special prize.

Kristi Jaanus and Tiiu-Liisa Rummo took the other second-place award. Andres Laiapea, Triinu Laan and Kristel Kindsigo received third place, while Kadri Lepp was given the special prize.

The jury also recognised the stories of 13 other authors: Els Heinsalu, Kertu Aland, Airi Truija, Laura Seedre, Tiiu Kitsik, Kerly Luige, Rita Mets, Inga Roos, Reeli Pärn, Juhan Voolaid, Liis Sein, Kadri Bank and Johanna Iisebel Järvelill.

The winning and recognised stories will be published soon in either Täheke or Hea Laps.

The competition accepted stories about anything that happens at school, including sports, excursions, joint visits to theatres or museums, the simple or difficult lives of students and teachers, mishaps and mischief. The only condition was that the stories be connected with school and attending school.
