Ukrainian artist Denys Kulikov opens exhibition in Tartu

Ukrainian artist Denys Kulikov has opened an exhibition titled “I Am My Own Executioner and Lunch” at Kett Gallery in Tartu, ERR reported.

The exhibition brings together Kulikov’s work from recent years and traces the development of recognisable symbolism and a distinctive visual language in his art.

His illustrations draw on the mythologies of various cultures, combining them with personal emotions and experiences. According to Kulikov, the exhibition’s title refers to lost opportunities, shame and the realisation that he is the architect of his own failures.

The exhibition’s central work, which shares its title, was completed in Tartu shortly before the opening during a brief artist residency.

The exhibition will remain open at Kett Gallery until October 18.
