Tallinn’s Pikk Street Festival celebrates grandparents

Grandparents were the focus of Tallinn’s Pikk Street Festival on Sunday, with time shared between generations highlighted as the best gift, ERR reported.

More than a quarter of Estonia’s grandparents live alone, making time spent with children and grandchildren especially valuable. Family activities are not limited by national borders, and some grandparents visiting grandchildren in Tallinn’s Old Town had travelled from across the ocean.

While adult grandchildren can be indispensable guides, grandparents said the sweetest time is when their descendants are still young. Many also enjoy spoiling their grandchildren and often allow them more than they once allowed their own children.

The festival offered families the chance to create memories together, including by trying archaeological excavations. Grandparents’ Day also highlights storytelling and looking through photographs, which remain shared activities in many families.
