Lithuania turns back nine migrants at Belarus border

Lithuania denied entry to nine foreigners who attempted to cross the border illegally from Belarus over the past 24 hours, the State Border Guard Service (VSAT) said, according to LRT.

Latvian authorities turned back 105 irregular migrants on Saturday, while Polish border guards prevented six people from illegally crossing into Poland from Belarus on Friday.

VSAT said Lithuanian officers prevented more than 1,650 people from entering the country illegally from Belarus at unauthorised locations last year. The figure so far this year is 1,472.

More than 26,000 irregular migrants have been denied entry since the start of the migration crisis caused by Belarus, according to VSAT.

Migrants began arriving in large numbers in the eastern European Union countries in 2021. Western countries blamed the Minsk regime for the situation.
