ERR reports that a joint exhibition by painters Mari Roosvalt and Jaan Elken will open at the Pärnu New Art Museum on September 12. Titled “Dialogue,” the retrospective brings together works from the artists’ past 25 years.

Roosvalt said the artists share attitudes and interests, including ecological and political themes, and both follow developments in the art world and society around them. She mainly works in oil, while Elken works with acrylic.

“We have so many points of coincidence and so many opportunities for dialogue, and technique connects us,” Elken said. He described their work as a forceful and robust form of painting, marked by brushstrokes, palette-knife marks, stickers, flags and handwritten slogans.

Elken said the exhibition could be seen as a hybrid form of painting in the style of early pop art. He added that the process of putting the exhibition together had been a great pleasure and thanked Roosvalt for her trust.

The exhibition will remain open at the museum until October 18.
