Kelly Kaur releases debut solo album

Folk musician Kelly Kaur has released her first solo album, “The Village Told Me,” ERR reported on Friday.

Kaur plays violin, hiiu kannel and viola, and also sings. In addition to performing and arranging traditional music, she writes original music.

She studied at the University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy, focusing on traditional violin repertoire. Before releasing the album, Kaur had issued three singles as a solo artist.

Kaur is also a member of the group Leik, which has released two albums, “Let Me Grow” and “The Moon Shines Gold.” She has contributed to several other musical projects, including Fropp, Tammele, Haru, Torupillikirjad and Regijälg. Her music was also heard at the 21st Dance Celebration, “Iseoma.”

“The solo album is a summary of the past ten years for me. It brings together arrangements created during my studies in traditional music, as well as songs and pieces inspired by research into the music of my home region,” Kaur said.

The album was recorded at Kaur’s home, with sound production by Kõu Kaur.
