First-year drama school student Markus Ian Monak told ERR programme Ringvaade that he decided to enrol on a whim because he felt he had to find an answer to something at the school.

Monak was sent to the live broadcast without his knowledge as a prank by his classmates during a first-year initiation. He said he realised what was happening when a microphone was attached to him and added that he was very flattered.

Monak has danced throughout his life, studied dance in the United States and runs his own dance school. He said joining the drama school had been a sudden change. Although attending the entrance auditions was initially just a passing thought, he decided during the final rounds that he had to get into the school.

He has already directed and performed on stage, including in the musical Kinky Boots.

After two weeks at the school, Monak said he had realised that he actually knew nothing. He had never previously worked with spoken theatre, but said he no longer wanted to limit himself. Creating for the stage and an audience appealed to him, and he was open to combining dance and spoken theatre in his future work.
