Lithuania recorded its highest daily temperature of the year so far on Wednesday, with temperatures reaching 31.4 degrees Celsius, LRT reported, citing the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service.

The service said temperatures were 2 to 3 degrees higher than forecast. It described the reading as one of the highest ever measured in Lithuania in September.

The absolute September heat record is 35.1 C, recorded in Druskininkai on September 1, 2015.

The previous September 9 record was set exactly seven years ago in Kybartai, when the temperature reached 29.0 C. This year’s reading was 2.4 degrees higher.

This is already the tenth daily maximum temperature record recorded in Lithuania this year. There were 23 such records in 2025, 18 in 2024, 16 in 2023, 13 in 2022 and six in 2021.

Between 2021 and 2026, warm and hot temperature records in Lithuania have been recorded eight times more often than cold records, according to the service.

The warm weather is not expected to last. An atmospheric front will pass through the country within the next 24 hours, bringing cooler conditions on Thursday, when temperatures are forecast to reach only 15 to 20 C.
