Actor John Malkovich will bring his production The Music Critic to the Alexela concert hall next year, ERR reports. The performance is scheduled for April 9 and was created in collaboration with composer Aleksei Igudesman.

Malkovich plays a merciless critic who insults and ridicules the works of composers including Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Brahms and Schumann. The production combines some of the greatest works in classical music with unexpected reactions that those pieces provoked in music critics at the time.

The Music Critic began in 2010. Malkovich and Igudesman have toured the production internationally for years. Malkovich recently cancelled a performance in Israel after a press release highlighted quotes that he had not made himself.

During a career spanning more than 40 years, Malkovich has worked mainly in film and television. His best-known roles include films such as Of Mice and Men, Con Air, Being John Malkovich and In the Line of Fire. This autumn, he is due to appear in Martin McDonagh’s new film Wild Horse Nine, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival.

As a co-founder of Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Malkovich has continued to work in theatre alongside his Hollywood career.

Malkovich last performed in Estonia in 2023, when he played the leading role in two performances of In the Solitude of Cotton Fields at the Alexela concert hall.
