Fraudsters steal nearly 15,800 euros in three Lithuanian cases

Fraudsters stole about 15,800 euros from people in Vilnius, Vilnius District and Šiauliai, LRT reported, citing police.

Vilnius police said a woman born in 1950 reported on Tuesday that an unknown person had contacted her through a mobile application and fraudulently obtained 4,860 euros from her between January 25 and September 8. A pre-trial investigation into fraud has been opened.

Police also received a report from a man born in 1979, who said 9,000 euros had been taken in Vilnius District after someone used his lost bank card between August 6 and September 8. The investigation covers suspected fraud, the production or forgery of an electronic payment instrument, illegal possession of such an instrument or its data, and illegal use of the instrument or its data.

In Šiauliai, a woman born in 1976 lost 1,899.97 euros on September 1 after receiving a fraudulent text message containing a link. She activated the link and entered her online banking credentials. Police have opened a pre-trial investigation into fraud.
