Isamaa support falls to three-year low in Norstat poll

Isamaa remains Estonia’s most popular political party, but its support has fallen to 23.4 percent, its lowest level in three years, ERR reported, citing a weekly Norstat poll commissioned by the Institute for Social Research.

Isamaa’s support dropped by 1.9 percentage points in a week, narrowing its lead over the Centre Party to 1.6 points. The Centre Party was supported by 21.8 percent of eligible voters, unchanged from the previous week.

Support for the Social Democratic Party rose to 15.9 percent, its highest result in two years. The Reform Party followed with 13.5 percent, the Estonian Conservative People’s Party with 12.4 percent, Parempoolsed with 7.4 percent and Eesti 200 with 1.6 percent.

The Greens had 0.7 percent support, while all other parties together received 3.4 percent.

Parempoolsed’s support has increased by two percentage points over the past four weeks, reaching its highest level in the party’s history in Norstat polls.

The coalition parties were supported by 15.1 percent of respondents, while parties in the parliamentary opposition received 73.5 percent.

Based on the latest polling results, Isamaa would hold 26 seats in the Riigikogu, Estonia’s parliament, the Centre Party 24, the Social Democratic Party 17, the Reform Party 14, the Estonian Conservative People’s Party 13 and Parempoolsed seven.

The latest aggregate results cover the polling period from Aug. 10 to Sept. 5. A total of 4,000 Estonian citizens of voting age were surveyed.
