Open House Tallinn adds tram depot to festival programme

Open House Tallinn will open the doors of a tram depot for the first time as part of this year’s festival, ERR reported. The architecture festival will take place from October 9 to 11, with volunteer guides leading tours of nearly 40 public buildings, unfinished projects and institutions.

This year’s programme focuses on discovering architecture in different ways. “Even in a city we think we know well, there are places we have never entered,” festival producer Aleksander Tali said. “This year’s programme brings together, for example, a monastery, a tram depot and a circular economy centre, each revealing a different side of Tallinn.”

Thirteen buildings and locations will be included in the programme for the first time. They are the Museum of the Dominican Monastery, the Estonian Health Museum, the former Seppo Clinic building, Hopner House, the courthouse on Pärnu Road, the Lasnamäe Circular Economy Centre, Pirita Leisure Centre, the Pirita District Government, the Sakala 3 theatre building, Tallinn Open School, the Tallinn Business Incubator, Tallinn University of Applied Sciences and the Vana-Lõuna tram depot.

Returning locations include BLRT Grupp, the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre’s School of Drama, Eesti Pank, the National Library of Estonia, the Estonian headquarters of Swedbank in the Arter quarter, the ERR Television House, Fotografiska, Hundipea district and Paljassaare port, the Orangery in Kadriorg Park, Kalev Yacht Club, the joint Ministry building, Palace Hotel, Pelgulinna State Gymnasium, the City Centre Theatre, Tallinn Art Hall, Tallinn Methodist Church, the Academy of Sciences, Toompea Castle and the Riigikogu, the Ülemiste water treatment plant, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Office of the Chancellor of Justice.

Open House Tallinn is part of the satellite programme of the Tallinn Architecture Biennale.
