Lithuania expands cyber defence centre into international threat platform

LRT reported Monday that the Regional Cyber Defence Centre is expanding its international cooperation and becoming the International Cyber Threat Analysis Platform, or HUB. The platform will combine three areas: cyber threat analysis, active threat hunting and research.

“Over six years, we have built a strong, trust-based international partnership and gained significant experience in cyber threat analysis,” said Rokas Jonikas, deputy director of the National Cyber Security Centre. He said the HUB would allow partners to analyse threats together, actively search for them, conduct joint research and turn their findings into concrete action.

Jonikas said cyber threats ignored national borders, meaning that responses could not be limited to individual countries. He highlighted the experience of Ukrainian partners and said that combining expertise and capabilities would help detect threats faster, understand them better and strengthen joint cyber defence.

At a council meeting last week, participants agreed on future research priorities, planned joint initiatives and discussed opportunities to conduct proactive cyber threat hunting operations, according to the Ministry of National Defence.

Foreign expert organisations and cyber security specialists from partner countries are expected to take a more active role in all activities, working on a rotating basis through the platform. The arrangement is intended to bring together expertise from different countries, speed up information sharing and support joint threat analysis and hunting.

Representatives from Poland, Ukraine, the Czech Republic and the United States attended the meeting. Lithuania shared its experience in organising joint threat hunting operations, sectoral threat assessments and research into the malicious use of artificial intelligence.
