Latvian Association of Regions holds congress ahead of elections

The Latvian Association of Regions, part of the United List, held its congress one month before the Saeima elections, with party representatives highlighting their leading position while expressing concern about the remaining campaign period, LSM reported.

Party chairman Edvards Smiltēns said the final month would be particularly difficult because the party’s position at the top of the ratings had created jealousy and tension among its partners, bringing a wave of criticism.

At the same time, the party has attracted new members. Smiltēns said Liene Apine, who now heads the Latvian Paralympic Committee, had recently joined. He also mentioned Viktorija Prituļaka, who had received the country’s highest state awards and made a significant contribution to Latvia’s relations with Ukraine, as well as Andris Skride, who had recently joined the team.

However, United List leader and Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs is not a member of the party. “Time will put everything in its place,” Smiltēns said.

The congress discussed Latvia’s security and development, the current political situation and the organisation’s future priorities.
