Reket and Púr Múdd join forces on new single

ERR’s weekly new music roundup highlights an unexpected collaboration between Estonian rapper Reket and production duo Púr Múdd, alongside new releases from DJ Lumi, Kosmos, Dew8, Jae Stephens, Logic1000 and others.

DJ Lumi and Tellemralf release Future

DJ Lumi and Tellemralf have released the four-track mini-album Emotions Pt. I. Its roughly 13 minutes offer flickering, catchy and generally slightly sad dance music, in a good way.

Some Times stretches Absolutely Everything

Some Times, a collaborative project by young jazz musicians Marten Männa and Mikk Kaasik, have released the third single from their debut album Oddly Even.

The new song, Absolutely Everything, sounds unexpectedly grand and ceremonial thanks to its strong horn parts, although it could use a little more air in places. The track lasts nearly eight minutes, with enough energy to carry it through to the end.

Kosmos and Dew8 release a poetry album

Kosmos, the stage name of Siim Sinamäe, and Dew8, whose real name is Siim Parisoo, have released the joint album Viimaste Asjade Teadus, which they describe as a poetry album.

Although one could ask whether every rap record is a kind of poetry album, Kosmos’s stoic verses explain especially well why this one fits that description. The poetry is delivered over hip-hop beats, but when Dew8 begins his declamatory rap, which has been poetic for some time, the result turns fully into rap before circling back to its starting point.

The record is distinctive in any case. The beats, apparently produced mainly by Dew8, are particularly strong in their lo-fi and dusty sound.

Reket and Púr Múdd release Kanna Mind

The day’s biggest surprise is the collaboration between Reket and Púr Múdd. While Kosmos delivers poetry over rap beats, Reket now raps over dance beats.

Púr Múdd has also returned to original music after spending time making covers, giving listeners a chance to hear something written in this century. The production duo has not lost its touch, as shown by the metallic rustling in the bridge of the second verse, although it has not completely broken away from its work in cover music.

Reket sounds as angry and powerful as he has in a long time, perhaps more than ever. The pair are expected to release a joint album titled Võõrad at the end of October. It should be interesting, although the first single alone makes it difficult to say whether that will be in a good or bad way.

Masta Robusta releases Refrään

Masta Robusta, a producer and rapper from Rakvere, has released the EP Reipaid Ridu Rezzidel Radadel.

The artist behind the name is Mart Rauba, also known as MC Lord, a member of the rap groups Öökülm, TMF and RLV Massive. According to Rauba, the new rap release brings together experimental hip-hop, breakbeat, UK garage, house, punk and more lyrics in Estonian.

Jae Stephens shares Gymnastics

US singer Jae Stephens, 29, released the precise and effective pop album Total Sellout last year and already appears to be preparing another one.

She has released four singles this year. Although they have not yet made as strong an impression together as Total Sellout, they are still worth hearing. Stephens has an exceptionally strong ear for pop and R&B melodies and chord progressions, and she knows how to use them in her songs.

Logic1000 collaborates with Christine and the Queens

Another unexpected collaboration comes from Australian DJ and producer Logic1000 and Christine and the Queens. Logic1000 gives Christine and the vocals considerable space, despite the singer appearing as a guest on the producer’s track.

By today’s standards, it is a straightforward pop song. The track will appear on Logic1000’s album Confirmation!, due in October.
