Eesti Laul 2027 rules set three-minute song limit

ERR has approved the rules for Eesti Laul 2027, requiring competing songs to be no longer than three minutes and not to have been made public before 9 p.m. on November 27, 2026. The rules were approved by the ERR board on September 1.

The contest will consist of a preliminary round and a final on January 30, 2027. ERR will organise the competition and make decisions on related matters.

Submitted songs must have original lyrics and music. The authors must remain the same in every round, and songs that reach the final will be made public by ERR unless it decides otherwise.

Political, commercial or similar lyrics or content are not permitted. Songs may not violate the law, good customs, the rules of Eesti Laul or the Eurovision Song Contest, or damage the reputation of either competition. Obscene, offensive, vulgar, hateful, defamatory or otherwise inappropriate expressions are also prohibited.

No more than six people may be on stage during a performance. The soloist or soloists must remain the same in every round, and no performer may have been born after May 1, 2009. Performers may not represent, or seek to represent, another country in that year’s Eurovision Song Contest.

By taking part, contestants agree to comply with the Eesti Laul rules and the rules set by the European Broadcasting Union for the 71st Eurovision Song Contest. They must also cooperate with ERR and grant it the rights needed to use the songs, performances, recordings and promotional material connected with them.

Contestants must confirm that their participation does not infringe third-party intellectual property rights and must release ERR from liability for related claims. They also agree to the processing of their personal data under the regulation and to follow ERR’s safety and health rules at its premises and at other competition-related events and recording locations.
