Kazlų Rūda lifts storm emergency declaration

Kazlų Rūda municipality on Thursday lifted the municipal-level state of emergency declared after a storm, LRT reported.

The municipality said the decision followed an assessment that the main threats to residents’ safety and the provision of essential services had eased. The need for additional measures used to manage the emergency had also largely disappeared.

Some isolated power outages remain, but their scale no longer justifies extending the emergency regime. The removal of the declaration does not end efforts to address the storm’s effects and remaining disruptions, which will continue through standard procedures if necessary.

Deputy Mayor Justinas Kazlas said the Ministry of National Defence provided assistance to residents of Kazlų Rūda municipality until August 31.

The emergency was declared on August 24 after strong winds uprooted trees, toppled electricity poles and damaged power lines. Many residents were left without electricity, water supplies were disrupted, some roads were blocked by trees and impassable, and telephone service was unavailable in some areas.

According to ESO, six power disruptions affecting 15 customers remained in Kazlų Rūda municipality on Thursday evening.
