Kazlų Rūda lifts emergency situation declared after storm

Kazlų Rūda municipality in Lithuania has lifted the municipality-level emergency situation declared after a storm, LRT reported.

The decision was made after authorities assessed that the main threats to residents’ safety and the provision of essential services had decreased. The need for additional measures to manage the emergency had also largely disappeared.

Isolated electricity outages remain in the municipality, but their scale no longer justifies maintaining the emergency regime. The removal of the emergency status will not halt efforts to address the storm’s consequences and remaining disruptions, which will continue under standard procedures if needed.

Deputy Mayor Justinas Kazlas said the Ministry of National Defence provided assistance to residents until August 31.

The emergency situation was declared on August 24 after strong winds uprooted numerous trees, damaged electricity poles and brought down power lines. Many residents were left without electricity, water supplies were disrupted, some roads were blocked by trees and impassable, and telephone service was unavailable in certain areas.

According to ESO, six electricity supply disruptions remained in the Kazlų Rūda municipality on Thursday evening, affecting 15 customers.
