Lithuania turns back nine migrants at Belarus border

Lithuanian border guards turned back nine migrants attempting to enter from Belarus over the past day, LRT reported on Wednesday, citing the State Border Guard Service.

Latvian border guards turned back 45 migrants on Tuesday, while Poland reported no attempts to enter the country illegally on Monday.

Lithuania has refused entry to more than 1,300 migrants so far this year.

Last year, migrants attempted to enter Lithuania illegally from Belarus more than 1,600 times. The figure was 1,002 the year before.

Since the start of the migration crisis from Belarus, Lithuanian border guards have prevented more than 25,800 foreigners from entering the country illegally.

The influx of migrants from Belarus to the eastern EU member states began in 2021. Western countries accuse the Minsk regime of organising it.
