Estonia’s parliament begins presidential election with Ülle Madise as sole candidate

Estonia’s parliament will convene for an extraordinary session on Wednesday to begin electing the country’s next president, ERR reported. The session starts at noon and will be broadcast live on the ERR portal.

The first round of voting will feature Ülle Madise, the only presidential candidate registered by the Republic of Estonia’s National Electoral Committee. Her candidacy was submitted by 75 members of parliament.

Before the vote, Madise will address parliament. MPs will then have one hour to cast their ballots. Once voting ends and any possible complaints have been resolved, the electoral committee will publicly count the votes.

A candidate must receive the support of two-thirds of all members of parliament, or at least 68 votes, to be elected.
