Lithuania reports no incidents as drones enter Estonian airspace

Lithuania recorded no airspace incidents after drones breached Estonian airspace early Tuesday and Latvia issued an air threat warning, the Lithuanian Armed Forces told LRT.

“No incidents have been recorded in Lithuanian airspace, and the security situation remains unchanged. The Lithuanian Armed Forces continuously monitor the airspace and the situation in the region and are prepared to respond if necessary,” the military said in a response sent to ELTA.

One drone crossed Estonia’s southeastern border early Tuesday, while another flew towards the eastern border city of Narva, ELTA reported. Warnings were sent to residents in Estonian regions.

In response, fighter jets operated by the Turkish Air Force and stationed at Ämari air base were scrambled as part of NATO’s rotating air defence mission. The threat had passed by 5.30am.

During the night, a mobile phone warning about a possible threat to Latvia’s airspace was sent in the country’s Alūksne municipality.

Estonia’s public broadcaster ERR reported that the drones that triggered the air threat warning in Latvia also entered Estonian airspace, where NATO Baltic air policing mission fighter jets continued searching for them.

In Lithuania, the most recent air threat warning was issued in Vilnius County on June 13, ELTA reported.
