Rain and thunderstorms forecast as autumn begins in Lithuania

Rain and stronger winds will mark the start of autumn in Lithuania, although temperatures will remain around 20 degrees Celsius, LRT reports, citing Elena Kliukina, a forecaster with the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service.

A cold atmospheric front is crossing the country on Tuesday. Heavier rain is expected in western districts and along the coast, while the eastern districts will see more rain in the second half of the day. Intense thunderstorms and heavy downpours are possible in some places.

Wind speeds may increase to 15 to 20 metres per second in some areas. Temperatures will reach 17 to 20 degrees, with readings exceeding 20 degrees in a few places.

Wednesday night will be calmer, although stronger wind gusts may develop along the coast. Brief rain is expected both overnight and during the day. Temperatures will fall to 12 to 17 degrees at night and rise to 18 to 23 degrees during the day.

The chance of thunderstorms will increase on Thursday, but the day will remain fairly calm. A new atmospheric front will cross the country, bringing the possibility of heavy rain in some areas. Temperatures will range from 10 to 15 degrees at night and from 17 to 22 degrees during the day.

According to Kliukina, winds of 8 to 13 metres per second are expected through Saturday, but stronger gusts are not forecast for the end of the week.
