Estonia’s annual inflation slows to 1.3 percent in August

Estonia’s harmonised consumer price index rose 0.3 percent from July and 1.3 percent year on year in August, according to a preliminary estimate from Statistics Estonia reported by ERR.

The annual increase was the smallest since spring 2021, when the economy was recovering from the coronavirus pandemic, said Lauri Veski, head of the Statistics Estonia consumer price statistics service.

“Compared with August 2025, the index was mainly affected by higher prices for housing and transport, while lower prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages had the opposite effect,” Veski said.

The figure is a preliminary estimate and will be revised as additional data on August prices becomes available.

The harmonised index accounts for spending by tourists as well as the consumption structure of Estonia’s residents, making it comparable with the international Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices.

Statistics Estonia will publish the August consumer price index on September 7 and the final harmonised index data on September 16.
