Cold front to bring rain and thunderstorms across Lithuania

Rain, stronger winds and locally heavy downpours will mark the start of autumn in Lithuania, while temperatures remain around 20 degrees Celsius, LRT Radio and LRT.lt report, citing forecaster Elena Kliukina of the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service.

A cold atmospheric front will move across the country on Tuesday. Heavier rain is expected in western districts and along the coast, while the eastern districts will turn wetter in the second half of the day. Thunderstorms are also possible, and some areas may receive large amounts of rain.

Winds will locally strengthen to 15 to 20 metres per second. Temperatures will reach 17 to 20 degrees, exceeding 20 degrees in some places.

Wednesday night will be calmer, although stronger wind gusts may develop along the coast. Brief rain is possible both overnight and during the day, with temperatures ranging from 12 to 17 degrees at night and reaching 18 to 23 degrees during the day.

The chance of thunderstorms will increase on Thursday, although the day will remain fairly calm. A new atmospheric front will cross the country, bringing locally heavy rain. Temperatures will fall to 10 to 15 degrees at night and reach 17 to 22 degrees during the day.

Kliukina said winds would reach 8 to 13 metres per second through Saturday, but no further strengthening of the wind is expected at the end of the week.
