Laura Põld to open Beautiful Pulsating Web exhibition in Budapest

Estonian artist Laura Põld will open her solo exhibition Beautiful Pulsating Web in Budapest on September 3, ERR reported. The exhibition will be held at the gallery spaces of the Dr. Eva Kahan Foundation and curated by Lilian Hiob-Küttis.

The exhibition, which follows a show of the same name in Vienna in the spring, presents new works created specifically for the project. They include large-scale hand-tufted textile pieces and a new ensemble of ceramic sculptures.

Põld’s work draws on the concept of plant thinking, shifting attention away from human-centred thought towards the existence and importance of vegetal sentience. Her works seek to give a voice to organisms that people have tended to regard as too slow and passive because they lack linguistic means of expression.

Instead of a dystopian vision, the artist explores alternative ways in which plants and other living organisms might adapt, survive and develop in a damaged environment affected by human activity. According to the exhibition organisers, textile works made from natural and synthetic yarns and ceramic objects with an organic visual language express the creative resilience of the vegetal world.

The Eva Kahan Foundation is a non-profit art foundation operating in Vienna and Budapest. It supports contemporary art, organises exhibitions and promotes international dialogue in the arts. Its programme includes exhibitions, academic research projects and collaborations with artists, curators and institutions.

The exhibition will be open in Budapest until October 31.
