All passengers will be able to travel free of charge on Rīgas satiksme buses, trolleybuses and trams on the first day of the school year, September 1, LSM reported. The journey will not need to be registered.
The free travel is provided for under binding regulations adopted by Riga City Council on fare concessions.
As the new school year begins and the summer season ends, public transport will gradually switch to autumn timetables. From September 1, autumn schedules will apply to tram route 1, bus route 3, and trolleybus routes 4 and 17.
Timetables for bus routes 36 and 58 will also change on weekdays from August 31 and on weekends from September 5. Route 58 buses will no longer run to Vecāķi and will instead operate on the main Purvciems to Vecmīlgrāvis route.
Minor timetable changes will also affect bus route 56.
