Two people were killed in separate tractor-related accidents in Latvia on Tuesday, including a minor who died at the Latraps grain pre-processing complex in Eleja, LSM reported, citing the State Police.

Police said a man born in 1984 was driving a tractor at the complex when he ran over a young person born in 2009. The victim died at the scene from their injuries. The police have opened criminal proceedings and are investigating the circumstances.

The Latraps complex was temporarily closed after the accident. “We express our deepest condolences to the family, relatives and colleagues of the deceased. This is a tragedy that should not have happened,” Latraps board chairman Roberts Strīpnieks said, adding that the company would help establish what happened and support the victim’s family.

The second fatal accident occurred in Svente Parish, Augšdaugava Municipality, where a truck collided with a tractor on the Daugavpils bypass. Although initial reports said one person had been injured, police later confirmed that the tractor driver had died. Criminal proceedings have also been opened in that case.

In total, 129 road accidents were registered in Latvia during the 24-hour period. Nine people were injured and two were killed.
