Paabel returns with new album after 12-year creative break

Estonian folk ensemble Paabel has released its fifth full-length album, “Ajatu,” after a 12-year creative break, ERR reported.
The band’s previous release was the live album “Meestevägi,” issued in 2014. Paabel officially said goodbye to audiences in spring 2017 with a final concert at the Viljandi folk music hall.
The returning lineup consists of Sandra Sillamaa, Arno Tamm, Lauri Kadalipp, Jaan Jaago, Tanel Kadalipp and Tõnu Tubli. The new album combines the members’ shared history, Estonian folk music and material created specifically after their reunion.
The music was developed during creative sessions in the band’s rehearsal space, where the members’ different musical ideas met through free-form jams. Producers Arno Tamm and Jaan Jaago said the group’s only goal in reuniting was to make music they themselves would enjoy.
They said the album captures the individual strengths of each musician and the most powerful and mature version of the group’s distinctive whole. The album will be presented at concerts in Rapla, Tartu, Viljandi, Pärnu and Tallinn.
