Estonian government begins 2027 budget talks on Tuesday

The Estonian government will begin discussions on the 2027 state budget and the state budget strategy for the next four years at Stenbock House, the government headquarters, on Tuesday, ERR reported.

Government communications deputy director Liis Velsker said ministers would hold discussions on Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday, the Ministry of Finance will present its summer economic forecast at a Cabinet meeting.

The forecast will be used by the government and parliament when making budget policy decisions, and by businesses when preparing strategic plans. Its explanatory memorandum will also provide the public with an overview of recent economic developments and the outlook for the next four years.

The government will discuss the budget in the coming weeks. By the end of September, it plans to approve the state budget and budget strategy measures covering revenue, expenditure and other areas, as well as the Health Insurance Fund’s budget position for the next four years and all draft legislation related to the 2027 state budget.

The government also aims to approve the allocation of European Union support under the 2028 to 2034 national plan. By the end of September, it must submit the 2027 state budget bill to parliament and approve the 2027 to 2030 state budget strategy. Before then, the government will hear the opinion of the State Budget Council.
