Minimal Wind shifts to Estonian-language music

Estonian band Minimal Wind has changed direction and is now writing music in Estonian, ERR reported. The group decided to take a break from continuing as before and reconsider what its music should be, band member Taavi-Hans Kõlar said on the television programme Terevisioon.

“Instead of moving forward by inertia as we always have, we thought it would be better to pause and consider who we are now and what would be best for us to do,” Kõlar said. He added that the band’s experience made it logical to create music in Estonian that was more mature and connected more with listeners.

The band has also tested its new material at concerts. Based on the feedback, the lyrics of the Estonian-language songs are reaching audiences better and have a different effect, Kõlar said.

Paula Pajusaar described the new direction as a natural development. After extensive experimentation, mistakes and successes, it feels like the most authentic and appropriate form of music for the band, she said.

Minimal Wind plans to release a new full-length album in late autumn.
