Severe weather in Lithuania and Latvia is causing delays to international train services, ERR reported. A train that left Vilnius early in the morning is expected to reach Riga nearly 90 minutes later than scheduled, with delays continuing as far as Tartu and Tallinn, Elron communications manager Kristo Mäe said.
Storm winds brought down trees on the track between Riga and Valga overnight. As a result, the 7:30 train from Riga to Tartu and Tallinn, as well as the 9:30 train travelling from Riga to Tartu and Tallinn with a transfer, are also running late.
Elron apologised to passengers for the possible inconvenience.
Trains departing Estonia towards Latvia and Lithuania are currently leaving according to schedule. Mäe advised passengers to monitor Elron’s website, www.elron.ee, for updates, as weather conditions may change quickly. Information is also available from customer support at 616 0245.
Elron will refund the fare if a train is delayed by 30 minutes or more. Passengers can request compensation by completing the refund form at https://elron.pilet.ee/et/tagastus.
