ERR reports that the feminist group exhibition and storytelling project “Island of Girls” opened at the EKA Gallery on Friday, imagining a fictional island where girls live alongside flowers and nature.
The project draws on Ukrainian artist Daria Titova’s experience of war and explores childhood, grief, home and the need to create spaces where imagination can offer refuge.
The island’s “girls” are not a gender restriction but symbols of openness, curiosity and sincerity, reflecting a belief that the world could be different. Everyone is welcome, the organisers say.
In the world created by the exhibition, there is no war or grief. Flowers and plants become symbols of resistance, while tenderness, imagination and care serve as ways to survive and create a different reality.
The exhibition features Titova’s visual works, alongside ceramics by Mariia Chudna and original music by Helena Atkin. Natalia Stojkova and Kornélia Nemcová present their film “A Woman’s Heart”, offering another perspective on women’s experiences of war.
The exhibition remains open until September 6.
