Vilnius will host the 17th Velomarathon cycling event on Sunday, with organisers expecting nearly 10,000 cycling enthusiasts, LRT reported.

Professional and amateur cyclists, as well as children, will take part in the event. Enthusiasts of scooters, skateboards and roller skates will also join the route.

The event village will feature quizzes, educational activities, entertainment for children, bicycle acrobatics and live music. Organisers said they wanted participants to spend the entire day at the event, not simply compete and cross the finish line.

Traffic in central Vilnius will be restricted from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday. Participants will start at Independence Square and travel along Gediminas Avenue, Šventaragis, Arsenal, Žvejų and Upės streets, across Žvėrynas Bridge and along A. Goštauto Street.

Central Vilnius will remain accessible via Geležinio Vilko and A. Goštauto streets, while traffic will be able to leave through Lukiškių Street.

Additional restrictions will apply on part of Gediminas Avenue, between A. Goštauto and Gynėjų streets, from 9 a.m. on Saturday until 10 p.m. on Sunday. Restrictions on part of A. Mickevičiaus Street, between A. Goštauto and Vytauto streets, will be in place from 6 p.m. on Saturday until 10 p.m. on Sunday.

From 4:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, some bus and trolleybus routes and timetables will change. Some routes will be shortened or temporarily suspended.
