Israel continues attacks on Lebanon despite ceasefire

Israel continues to carry out attacks in Lebanon, LRT reported, citing Lebanese security sources and the state-run National News Agency.

Overnight strikes hit the area around the strategically important Ali al-Taher Heights near the city of Nabatieh, according to Lebanese security sources. The National News Agency also reported attacks in the Bint Jbeil district and south of the coastal city of Tyre.

The Israeli military described the strikes as “routine attacks.”

The Ali al-Taher area, located about 600 metres above sea level, is considered strategically important because it overlooks a large part of the region. It is also an operational and influence zone for the Iran-backed Hezbollah group and a persistent flashpoint in its conflict with Israel.

Hezbollah sources said the organisation would not relinquish control of Ali al-Taher. The area is also believed to contain an underground tunnel network belonging to the group.

Hezbollah drew Lebanon into the war between Iran, the United States and Israel that began in late February, launching rockets at Israel shortly after the conflict started. Israel responded with strikes and a ground operation that killed more than 4,000 Lebanese people.

Despite a ceasefire, Israel continues to keep troops in southern Lebanon and carries out attacks almost daily.
