Officials identify drone operator in restricted zone near Kupiškis

Public Security Service officers identified a person who flew a drone without authorisation near a liquid energy products terminal in Stračniai, Kupiškis, LRT reported.

The unauthorised flight was recorded on August 15 near the Subačius liquid energy products terminal, the service said on Friday.

A Lithuanian citizen born in 1984 was detained during the incident. He explained that he makes videos of places of interest in his free time.

Administrative proceedings have been launched.

The Public Security Service reminded drone operators to check whether flights are permitted at their chosen location and whether they have all the permits required by law. Unauthorised flights in prohibited or restricted areas may result in administrative liability and pose a threat to the security of important facilities.
