Brocēni junction gets traffic lights and turning lane

Construction is under way to improve traffic safety at the junction of the A9 Liepāja highway and Lielcieceres and Liepnieku streets in Brocēni, Saldus municipality, LSM reported, citing Latvijas Valsts ceļi. Traffic is currently regulated with road signs.

The junction will receive traffic lights, a separate lane for left turns from the Liepāja highway, lighting and pedestrian crossings. Pedestrian and cycling infrastructure will also be built along the highway.

The section of the A9 carries up to 10,000 vehicles a day, making it difficult to exit Liepnieku Street, which leads to the Schwenk factory, and Lielcieceres Street onto the highway. The junction also includes a left turn and is used by vulnerable road users.

Under a cooperation agreement between Latvijas Valsts ceļi and Saldus municipality, the municipality commissioned the pedestrian and cycling infrastructure project and is paying for its construction. The total contract is worth 705,195.50 euros including value-added tax, of which 178,063.49 euros is allocated to the pedestrian and cycling infrastructure.

Construction is being carried out by Via and is scheduled for completion in spring 2027. Supervision is provided by the BPU and IngWay suppliers’ association, while Ceļuprojekts is the project designer.
