Lithuania turns back 15 irregular migrants at Belarus border

Lithuania turned back 15 irregular migrants at its border with Belarus over the past 24 hours, LRT reported on Friday, citing the State Border Guard Service.

Latvian border guards turned back 109 migrants on Thursday, while Poland recorded no attempts to enter the country illegally at its border on Wednesday.

More than 1,200 irregular migrants have been denied entry to Lithuania so far this year. Last year, people attempted to enter Lithuania illegally from Belarus more than 1,600 times, compared with 1,002 attempts the year before.

Since the start of the migration crisis caused by Belarus, Lithuanian border guards have prevented more than 25,800 foreigners from entering the country illegally. The flow of migrants to the European Union’s eastern member states from Belarus began in 2021, and Western countries have accused the Minsk regime of organising it.
