Former Latvian lawmaker Guntars Bilsēns dies

Former 11th Saeima member Guntars Bilsēns has died, Latvia’s parliament said, according to LSM.

Bilsēns was elected to the Saeima in 2011 on the Zatlers Reform Party list. He focused particularly on education issues, serving on the Education, Culture and Science Committee and as its secretary.

Before joining parliament, Bilsēns worked in education, environmental protection and local government. He led Valmiera 36th Vocational Secondary School for more than 10 years.

According to the LETA archive, Bilsēns was born in 1952. He also served as a Valmiera council member, was a board member of the AMI vocational education sports club and chaired the Zvejnieku dārzi horticultural cooperative.
