Triin Brigitta Heidov seeks challenge in theatre

Director Triin Brigitta Heidov, a graduate of the 32nd class of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre’s drama school, says she is looking for recognition, challenges, sweat, tears and laughter in theatre, ERR’s culture portal reported.

The culture portal is introducing the school’s latest graduates, including actors, directors and dramaturges entering the profession.

Who are you, where do you come from and where are you going?

Triin from Tallinn, going out of Tallinn.

What was your first great theatre experience?

My parents say that when I was a couple of years old, I was fascinated by Tallinn City Theatre’s production The Musketeers: 20 Years Later.

What would you have become if you had not been admitted to drama school?

If I could choose again now, in hindsight, I think I would have been happy as an athlete or a musician.

Who is your favourite actor from Estonia and from abroad, and why?

From abroad: Yuri Borisov, Mads Mikkelsen and Ewan McGregor.

In Estonia, there are three actresses I greatly admire, but I will not name them here, otherwise I would become shy when meeting them.

What do you miss most in Estonian theatre?

Companies that search for something together and pursue a shared goal.

Is there a dream character you would like to play on stage or screen?

It would be great to play a sly character like a Kratt, Nukitsamees or a forest goblin with burning eyes.

When I once saw the film Don Juan in Tallinn, I began dreaming of playing a woman disguised as a man who outdoes all the men with her skill.

What do you look for most in theatre?

Recognition, challenges, sweat and tears. I also like to laugh.

Is life without theatre possible?

Probably not for me anymore.

Give us some recommendations: one film, one book and one production.

Film: Hunt for the Wilderpeople by Taika Waititi.

Book: Mika Waltari’s Sinuhe.

Production: I dream of making it to the Drama Festival at least once in my life. That is where my favourites of this year and potential favourites are.
