Several parts of Estonia may see rain showers and thunderstorms on Independence Day, with temperatures reaching 20 degrees Celsius, ERR reported.
Thursday will be influenced by a multi-part low-pressure system over the Baltic Sea region. A secondary low-pressure centre moving from Scandinavia across the sea towards southwestern Finland will bring rain showers and local thunderstorms. The day will be fairly windy, with temperatures of up to 20 degrees.
The night will bring little or variable cloud and mostly dry conditions. After midnight, cloud cover will increase from the southwest. Rain will fall in places in southern Estonia and in several areas in western Estonia, with a risk of thunderstorms. Fog will occur in places on the mainland. Winds will mainly be from the southern sector at 1 to 7 metres per second, reaching up to 10 metres per second on the coast. Temperatures will range from 7 to 15 degrees.
On the public holiday morning, western Estonia will be cloudy with sunny spells and rain, while eastern Estonia will have little or variable cloud and dry conditions. Southeasterly and southerly winds will blow at 3 to 8 metres per second, reaching 7 to 10 metres per second around the Gulf of Riga, with gusts of up to 13 metres per second. Temperatures will range from 10 to 16 degrees.
During the day, cloudy periods with sunny spells are expected, along with rain showers and local thunderstorms. Moderate winds from the southern sector will reach gusts of up to 15 metres per second on the islands and the west coast. Temperatures will range from 16 to 20 degrees.
The evening will remain rainy in many places, with local thunderstorms possible. Winds will be from the southwest and south, and from the west on the islands, at 3 to 8 metres per second. Around the Gulf of Riga, winds will reach 7 to 11 metres per second, with gusts of up to 15 metres per second. Temperatures will reach 18 degrees.
The forecast for Friday through Monday calls for occasional showers at night and more widespread rain during the day. Rain may be heavy in places, and thunderstorms are also possible. Night-time temperatures will range from 9 to 16 degrees, while daytime temperatures will reach 16 to 21 degrees. It may be cooler during periods of rain.
