LRT reported that Lithuania’s military has linked reports of a fighter aircraft over the Utena and Ignalina districts to planned exercises being conducted in the area.
The Lithuanian Air Force is carrying out the drills with Italian Air Force fighter jets participating in NATO’s Baltic air-policing mission, as well as an unmanned aircraft.
The military said residents may see allied fighter jets flying at lower altitudes and hear aircraft sounds connected with the exercises. The Police Department and the Emergency Response Centre have been informed about the activity.
The drills are scheduled to continue until 6 p.m. No further information about their progress or the tasks being carried out has been released.
