Estonian parliament member Kalev Stoicescu has decided to join the Parempoolsed party, ERR reported.

“Estonian politics needs Parempoolsed. We must not accept future generations paying the bill for living beyond our means,” Stoicescu said.

He said he would continue actively contributing to Estonia’s foreign and defence policy as a member of the party.

“We are living in a pivotal time. It is important for Estonia to remain a carrier of Western values, continue increasing its prosperity next to an aggressive neighbour and strengthen its broad national defence,” Stoicescu said.

Stoicescu will also run on the Parempoolsed list in the 2027 parliamentary elections.

Stoicescu announced on August 9 that he was leaving the Eesti 200 party.

Parempoolsed chair Lavly Perling said she was pleased with his decision.

“Everyone with a right-wing worldview who genuinely wants to make Estonia’s future better is welcome to join Parempoolsed. I believe Kalev’s extensive knowledge of foreign and security policy will add even more weight to Parempoolsed’ existing expertise,” Perling said.

Before entering politics, Stoicescu worked for several decades at the foreign and defence ministries, including as Estonia’s ambassador to the United States. He later worked as a researcher at the International Centre for Defence and Security. For the past three and a half years, he chaired the Estonian parliament’s National Defence Committee.
