Parliament panel to examine prime minister’s wife’s employment

LRT reported that the Seimas Anti-Corruption Commission will hold a meeting next week to examine the employment of Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius’s wife, Aistė Sinkevičienė, at Kaunas District Municipality and its subordinate Raudondvaris Manor institution.

Commission chairman Arvydas Anušauskas said the situation required an anti-corruption assessment because questions had been raised about the possible fictitious or formal employment of people linked to politicians and the use of public funds.

LRT’s Investigations Unit reported on Wednesday that Sinkevičienė became head of the municipality’s Public and International Relations Division without a competition. She also works as a public relations specialist at Raudondvaris Manor for half-time hours remotely.

Her contact details are not publicly available, and the institution’s deputy director said she was unaware of such a colleague. According to the deputy director, the manor has no specific person responsible for public relations, as this work is handled by the head of the institution.

Sinkevičienė has worked for Kaunas District Municipality since 2013. After returning from maternity leave in 2023, she became a senior specialist in the Public and International Relations Division. In July 2024, she was appointed head of the division without a competition.

Her income exceeded 73,500 euros last year, with approximately one quarter coming from her work at Raudondvaris Manor.

According to LRT’s Investigations Unit, other people linked to Kaunas district Social Democrats also work at the manor. They include the district mayor’s adviser and the adviser’s spouse, an adviser to Education Minister Raminta Popovienė in the Seimas, and the son of Snieguolė Navickienė, a former manor director and leader of the Kaunas district Social Democrats.
