Sinkevičius begins first foreign visit with meetings in Latvia

Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius, on his first foreign visit since taking office, will meet Latvia’s Lithuanian community and the creative team behind the film The Flood in Riga on Wednesday, LRT reported.

Sinkevičius has repeatedly said Lithuania needs to strengthen ties with its closest Baltic and Scandinavian neighbours. He has said shared security interests require closer cooperation in military, infrastructure and other areas.

The prime minister will visit Latvia from August 19 to 20. During his visit, Finance Minister Taurimas Valys will deputise for him in Lithuania.

BNS reported that before becoming prime minister, Sinkevičius said he would have preferred Germany to be the destination of his first foreign visit.
