Social Democrats gain support as EKRE loses ground in Norstat poll

Support for Estonia’s Social Democratic Party has risen by 1.4 percentage points over the past four weeks, while support for the Conservative People’s Party of Estonia, or EKRE, has fallen by 1.5 points over the past three weeks, according to a Norstat poll commissioned by the Institute for Social Research and reported by ERR.

The latest figures show 25.6 percent support for the Isamaa party, 22.2 percent for the Centre Party and 14.8 percent for the Social Democrats among Estonian citizens eligible to vote.

They are followed by EKRE on 13.1 percent, the Reform Party on 12.7 percent, the Parempoolsed party on 5.8 percent and Eesti 200 on 1.5 percent.

The coalition parties together received 14.2 percent support, while opposition parties in the Riigikogu, Estonia’s parliament, received 75.7 percent.

Based on the current figures, Isamaa would win 29 seats in parliament, the Centre Party 25, the Social Democrats 15, EKRE 14, the Reform Party 13 and Parempoolsed five.

The results cover the polling period from July 20 to August 15, during which 4,000 Estonian citizens of voting age were surveyed. Voters without a party preference were excluded when the parties’ relative support was calculated.

The institute and Norstat said that although party support figures had shown short-term fluctuations during the summer, no long-term trends had emerged.

The maximum margin of error was plus or minus 1.65 percentage points for Isamaa, the largest group in the survey. The margin was smaller for the other parties, standing at plus or minus 0.46 points for Eesti 200.
