The Lithuanian Regions Party has nominated Nikolajus Lebedevičius for the November 8 parliamentary by-election in the Nalšia North constituency, LRT reported.

Lebedevičius is a longtime employee of the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant and a member of the Visaginas municipal council, the party said.

The by-election was called after liberal lawmaker Jevgenijus Šuklinas, who had been elected in the constituency, died in late May. Lithuania’s Central Electoral Commission revoked his parliamentary mandate in early June.

Šuklinas, a well-known canoeist, was elected to the Seimas in 2024 with the Liberal Movement and belonged to the party’s parliamentary group.

Under Lithuania’s Electoral Code, a by-election must be held within six months when the mandate of a lawmaker elected in a single-member constituency ends. Such an election is not held if less than one year remains before the next regular parliamentary election, as calculated under the Constitution.
